Designed by the engineer Carles Buïgas, the fountain was conceived in 1929 as one of the main attractions of the International Exhibition site, in a unique combination of water and light, to which musical effects and choreographies were incorporated in 1976. Originally the fountain worked thanks to a powerful mechanism that allowed 2,600 liters of water to circulate every second thanks to five large pressure pumps that allowed it to reach heights of up to 54 meters. This display of shapes, added to more than three thousand nozzles and four thousand seven hundred lamps, allowed us to achieve up to 29 water games with different color varieties. This fountain became one of the main symbols of Barcelona at the time. to this day.
