Carlos Buïgas i Sans
(Barcelona, 1898-1979). A self-taught lighting engineer, Buïgas is the author of one of the most popular spaces on the old site of the 1929 International Exposition: the Magic Fountain.
He was part of the preparatory work commission for the Exhibition since 1916. Ten years later, in 1926, he was appointed head of the water and lighting section. In addition to the fountain, he also designed the columns of light and monumental fountains of changing shapes and colors that embellished the rest of the enclosure. He is also the author of the Pedralbes Palace springs and collaborated in the project for the port's air ferry, which was inaugurated in 1931. His success in Barcelona led him to collaborate with the creation of similar fountains, although of smaller dimensions, in the cities of Lisbon, Granada, Valencia and San Sebastián, among others.
